Genomic approaches and breeding in fish aquaculture

Genetic breeding is one of the most powerful tools for fish production. This field is rapidly evolving and new techniques have been developed to improve the accuracy for genetic prediction. In this talk, the main genetic breeding programs worldwide were revised. The structure and organization of these programs and selection methodologies have been discussed establishing the different layers to transfer the genetic improvement from the nucleous to the commercialization.
The state-of-art for genome sequencing in species of interest in aquaculture and the novel genotyping techniques based on sequencing were revised. Moreover, the genomic selection strategy was discussed and examples were presented.
